Rep. Anderson Statement on Governor’s Budget Address

HARTFORD – On Wednesday afternoon the governor delivered his budget address before a joint legislative session to explain his vision of the state’s spending blueprint for the next two years. State Rep. Mark Anderson (R-62) was in attendance and issued the following response to the governor’s proposal.

“I am cautiously optimistic following the remarks made by the governor this afternoon on his budget proposal. It was encouraging to hear similar ideas that seemingly mirror Republican-led initiatives on structural tax relief for Connecticut’s residents and businesses. To curb the rising cost of electricity rates, there is consensus to utilize new and existing resources, like Millstone, for clean affordable energy. Additionally, the governor has committed to keeping bipartisan fiscal guiderails in place for the next decade.

However, I remain concerned about existing legislative proposals that call to raise taxes and create programs that will require funding. With Covid relief funds drying up, the state will approach an unavoidable fiscal cliff should spending levels not be adjusted accordingly. In the coming months, the legislature will review the governor’s proposal and craft its own version before a final document is debated,” said Anderson.

Good principles lead to good gun policy

The June Drummer ran an opinion piece by Michael Fitzgerald questioning my legislative agenda, specifically HB 5717. Fitzgerald cited the Sandy Hook tragedy that led to Connecticut’s restrictive gun laws, and the recent Granby budget that funds a School Resource Officer (SRO). Of course, that a human being reached such a mental state that he murdered 20 […]
