Reality Check Budget
On Thursday, Connecticut House Republicans released our Reality Check Budget a $54.4 billion, two-year proposal designed to promote affordability, fiscal discipline, and long-term economic sustainability for our state.
The budget is $1.2 billion less than the Democrats’ plan, remains under the state’s spending cap, and reflects a commitment to honest, sustainable budgeting.

Key highlights of the proposal include:
- Lowers electric bills: Begins phasing out the “public benefits” charge.
- Preserves local aid: Fully funds special education to ease pressure on local property taxes.
- Cuts government costs: Reduces state agency operating budgets by 5% and imposes a two-year wage freeze on state employees, saving $330 million.
- Supports healthcare and core services: Includes $137.5 million in Medicaid rate increases and protects funding for veterans, education, and debt reduction.
- Rejects new taxes: Opposes the proposed $500 million capital gains tax and proposes a revenue-neutral tax policy for remote workers living in CT but employed by NY firms.
