Engaging with the National Guard Association of Connecticut: A Legislative Discussion at the Connecticut Science Center

At the invitation of Katie Zarzycka, President of the National Guard Association of Connecticut (NGACT), I had the privilege of participating in a legislative panel at the association’s annual state conference. This special event was held at the Connecticut Science Center and brought together members of the Veterans and Military Affairs Committee, alongside fellow advocates, to engage in a meaningful conversation about the legislative process and the vital role that members of the National Guard play in shaping it.

NGACT is dedicated to representing both active and retired members of the Connecticut Army and Air National Guard, advocating for their interests at both the state and national levels. As a part of this esteemed group, I was honored to join in this discussion, which focused on how National Guard members can be a part of the legislative process and make their voices heard.

The panel was filled with insightful dialogue, offering a valuable opportunity for the members of the National Guard to understand more deeply how their involvement in policy-making can help ensure that their needs and concerns are addressed. The discussions emphasized the importance of engagement, advocacy, and staying informed about legislative matters that impact the service members and their families.

I left the event feeling incredibly inspired and grateful for the dedicated service of our Citizen-Soldiers. It was a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by those in the National Guard, and the importance of supporting them in every aspect of their service, including their participation in the legislative process.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to Katie Zarzycka and all the members of NGACT for their commitment to serving and advocating for the needs of our Connecticut National Guard. We are proud of their service, and I look forward to continuing this important conversation with them in the future.

Good principles lead to good gun policy

The June Drummer ran an opinion piece by Michael Fitzgerald questioning my legislative agenda, specifically HB 5717. Fitzgerald cited the Sandy Hook tragedy that led to Connecticut’s restrictive gun laws, and the recent Granby budget that funds a School Resource Officer (SRO). Of course, that a human being reached such a mental state that he murdered 20 […]
