I enjoyed being part of the Wilderness School’s 50th Anniversary celebration this past weekend, my first and long-awaited visit to this Department of Children and Families facility in East Hartland.

The Wilderness School provides an Outward Bound type of experience to youth ages 13-21, to help them develop skills like resilience, getting along with others, confidence, and leadership. Outings range from one weekend to 20 days, and take place at the camp, and throughout Connecticut and New England.

The Wilderness School is a gem within the 62nd District and I was pleased to make its acquaintance.

As the colder months approach, I want to remind you of tips to be bear aware and a new law has taken effect to help avoid potentially harmful conflict. The Dept. of Environmental and Energy Protection has released an updated statement on safety tips as black bears begin their pre-hibernation routines. Click the button below for more information.

Good principles lead to good gun policy

The June Drummer ran an opinion piece by Michael Fitzgerald questioning my legislative agenda, specifically HB 5717. Fitzgerald cited the Sandy Hook tragedy that led to Connecticut’s restrictive gun laws, and the recent Granby budget that funds a School Resource Officer (SRO). Of course, that a human being reached such a mental state that he murdered 20 […]
