"Thank you to Plymouth Center School, Ms. Chapman and her second-grade students for allowing me to read to their classroom today. It was another opportunity to highlight the importance of reading in a fun and entertaining way," Rep Hoxha said. The book Rep. Hoxha read was called "Mother Bruce," which follows a bear named Bruce becomes a parent when the eggs he nabbed for his breakfast unexpectedly hatch. Despite his best efforts to rid himself of the responsibility of taking care of them, the goslings refuse to leave. His efforts to teach them to migrate south for the winter don't go quite as planned and he is then forced to physically travel with them by bus to Miami each winter.
For many children in our communities, the Boys & Girls Club is a safe space. It provides them with an environment where they can be themselves and a place that can have a forever impact on their lives. Last night, Representative Hoxha had the pleasure of attending Bristol's The Jr. Youth and Youth of the Year award ceremony, which recognized two outstanding young people for their efforts to improve themselves and our community. Victor G. (Jr. Youth of the Year winner) and Josephine K. (Youth of the Year winner) shared personal stories from their life and the challenges they faced and how the Boys & Girls Club has helped them in immeasurable ways. The common theme among them was just how much of a role the club played breaking them out of their shells and in their overall transformation. "For these young people to have faced some of the adversities they had experienced and come out better for it is truly incredible, and a testament to the role our Boys & Girls Clubs are playing in our community," Rep. Hoxha said. "It was an honor to have been invited to take part in their award. Based on what I heard, I know that all of the candidates will go on to do amazing things in the future."

"Everyone knows the power books have when it comes to building a child's imagination and creativity, so having an opportunity to encourage children to pick up a book is something I will always get behind," Rep. Hoxha said. Today, Representative Hoxha read 'The Bear and the Piano' by David Litchfield to Ms. Gustaferri's third-grade class at Fisher Elementary School as part of Read Across America Day. The students were not only attentive, but also engaged and extremely respectful. "This annual event is truly one of my favorites and I'd like to thank Ms. Gustaferri for having me and the other teachers and administrators who work tirelessly to make reading fun! Today was special, the students presented me with a 'Thank You' card signed by each one of them. It completely made my day!"
