Given the tremendous interest that has been displayed by our community over the disposition of Seaside State Park for a very long period of time, as well as my own personal engagement with this issue, I wanted to ensure that you were informed that Senate Bill (S.B.) 252, a bill that came across my desk within the past twenty-four hours, concerns itself with the sale of Seaside State Park.

As you may be aware, the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) recently decided that a Destination Park with a public-private component that includes a private developer is the Preferred Alternative Plan for Seaside.

S.B. 252, An Act Requiring the Sale of the Former Seaside Regional Center, if approved by the General Assembly would require that the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection on or before January 1, 2019 issue a request for proposals to sell the former Seaside Regional Center to a private developer. Private development plans for moving forward with this course of action have not been released.

The GAE Committee will be receiving public comment on this bill at a public hearing this Monday, March 5th, at 11:00 a.m. in Room 2A of the Legislative Office Building (LOB) located at 300 Capitol Avenue in Hartford.

If you wish to speak at the hearing, sign-up will take place on Monday from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in Room 2A of the LOB. The Committee asks that you please submit 30 copies of written testimony when you sign up. While your written testimony may be as brief or lengthy as you like, oral testimony will be limited to three minutes.

If you are unable to attend the hearing, you may also email your written testimony in Word or PDF format to GAEtestimony@cga.ct.gov. Please clearly state your name and the bill number (S.B. 252) in your email. Please know that all public hearing testimony, written and spoken, is public information. As such, it will be made available on the CGA website and indexed by internet search engines.

Testimony Guidelines are available on the General Assembly’s website.

Please know that as your State Representative,  I will always keep you informed on issues that impact our community.
