Zupkus, Lawmakers Hold Constituent Forum in Cheshire

CHESHIRE — State Reps. Lezlye Zupkus and Al Adinolfi teamed up with state Sen. Joe Markley for a recent forum at town hall, where residents posed questions on topics such as government spending and the state’s borrowing habits as well as criminal justice and gun owners’ rights. Adinfolfi, who represents the 103rd General Assembly District, described the bipartisan process that led legislators in special session last month to work toward closing a current-year budget deficit without increasing taxes. Markley, senator for the 16th District, talked about whether Connecticut could continue to borrow money to pursue projects such as the controversial New Britain to Hartford busway or the Jackson Labs initiative in Farmington. Zupkus, who represents the 89th District, described unsustainable state spending levels driving a projected $2 billion deficit over the next two fiscal years. Together, each of the state lawmakers told residents about the importance of staying involved–specifically, reaching out to their representatives in Hartford about issues that impact their lives.
