Zupkus Joins New I/DD Legislative Caucus

HARTFORD—State Rep. Lezlye Zupkus has joined a bipartisan coalition of legislators that will focus on issues affecting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families.
The group, the “I/DD caucus,” has gained steam since forming just a month ago, holding forums that have seen families statewide come to the capitol to share their stories with lawmakers. This new legislative caucus, considered to be the first of its type in the nation, will focus on issues including housing and medical care.
One of the goals, Zupkus said, is to raise awareness among all state lawmakers about the daily and difficult challenges faced by many Connecticut families.
“This type of action is long overdue,” said Zupkus, a first-term representative who serves on the legislature’s Human Services Committee. “It’s my hope that this group of legislators can offer a stronger voice to a lot of folks out there who, on a basic level, simply want what’s best for their loved ones.”
