Zupkus Attends Northwest Regional Mental Health Board Legislative Update

State Rep. Lezlye Zupkus (R-Prospect) joined first selectmen, council members, and guests from the public at a Legislative Update hosted by the Central Naugatuck Valley Mental Health Catchment Area Council #20 (CAC). During the event, Zupkus met and spoke with council members, service providers from local agencies, and constituents about their concerns with mental health services, including their uncertainty about how the governor’s recent budget cuts will affect services they rely on.
“The Central Naugatuck Valley Mental Health CAC provides tremendous support and resources to the consumers they serve and their families,” said Rep. Zupkus. “It is so important that we continue to come together as a community and keep this meaningful, honest dialogue going about how we can continue to ensure that those in need of mental health services receive them.”
The Central Naugatuck Valley Mental Health CAC is part of the Northwest Regional Mental Health Board, Inc. Established by the state legislature in 1975, Catchment Area Councils and Regional Mental Health Boards were created to ensure that citizens from every town in Connecticut could be actively involved in the kind and quality of mental health services delivered in Connecticut. The state is divided into twenty-three catchment areas defined geographically and based on population, comprising five uniform Regions; Council #20 belongs to Region V. The Northwest Regional Mental Health Board Inc., is a private, not-for-profit corporation, funded by the Department of Mental Health and Addition Services and the municipalities it serves.
