Zupkus Appointed to Children’s Poverty Council

HARTFORD — State Rep. Lezlye Zupkus has been appointed to the state’s Child Poverty and Prevention Council by House Minority Leader Larry Cafero. The council, created through legislation in 2004, is tasked with developing and promoting a plan to reduce the number of children living in poverty. It establishes prevention goals and recommendations and measures prevention service outcomes in order to promote the health and well-being of children and families. Zupkus’ role on the 19-member panel begins immediately.
“I’m honored to have been selected for this important post that provides the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of so many Connecticut residents,” said Zupkus, who represents the 89th General Assembly District serving Bethany, Cheshire and Prospect.
The council includes legislators and legislative staff, representatives from state agencies and commissions, and professionals from family-focused organizations.
“Lezlye, a mother to two young children, will be an excellent addition to a council that has such an important mission for our next generation,” said Cafero, who represents Norwalk’s 142nd General Assembly District. “She’s been a great voice at the Capitol for the towns she represents, and I have faith that she’ll do the same for children all over this state.”
