Zupkus, Adinolfi Applaud Land Conveyance for Cheshire Food Pantry

HARTFORD — State Reps. Lezlye Zupkus and Al Adinolfi today applauded land conveyance legislation approved by the House of Representatives that would provide Cheshire Community Food Pantry land for a their new facility.
The legislation, H.B. 5550, would see the state’s Department of Correction convey to the Cheshire Community Food Pantry two acres of land at the 244-acre Cheshire Reformatory on Sandbank Road.
“The mission of the Food Pantry is critically important given the financial stresses faced by too many families, and I’m thrilled that this legislation will help them achieve their goal of expanding their operation,” said Zupkus, who serves Cheshire and has worked with Department of Correction and food pantry officials to investigate whether the site would work for the organization.
Earlier this year, Cheshire Community Food Pantry was awarded $465,000 in bond money for the construction of a new building. The extra space will help in the storage of food inventory.
“With February’s grant-aid and today’s announcement about the land, the Cheshire Community Food Pantry is more than ready to continue providing stellar services to our community,” said Adinolfi, who represents Cheshire, Southington and Wallingford. “So many people are fed and assisted because of the Food Pantry. I applaud the state for seeing the Food Pantry’s importance to Cheshire and I wish the organization the very best in its continued efforts.”
The Food Pantry will receive the land at a cost equal to the administrative costs of making such conveyance.
The legislation requires action in the state senate.
