Rep. Zupkus Votes to Restore Balance of Power in Hartford

HARTFORD – State Representative Lezlye Zupkus (R-89) joined caucus members in voting against a measure to further extend Governor Lamont’s executive powers and continue his current executive orders until May 20, 2021. The measure passed the House of Representatives 90-50.
Republicans proposed an amendment that would have required a thorough review of all executive orders by April 15, with a vote to approve or reject them by April 21. Rep. Zupkus supported the amendment, which failed along party lines. You can read more about the amendment here.
At this point, it is more than fair to say ‘enough is enough.’ We are over a year into this pandemic and the legislature deserves its chance to weigh in on these decisions,” said Rep. Zupkus. “We have asked several times for the opportunity to bring the voices of our constituents to the table and have been ignored. It is time to restore the balance of power in our government and allow this body to do what it is supposed to: represent the people. I am disappointed in today’s vote and hope that we will be able to come together in the next thirty days to finally reclaim our status as an equal branch of government.”
The bill passed the House and will move on to the State Senate. To learn more or to track this legislation visit www.cga.ct.gov.
