Rep. Zupkus Voices Opposition to Bill that Would Decriminalize ‘Magic Mushrooms’

HARTFORD – Rep. Lezlye Zupkus, R-Prospect, voiced strong opposition on the House floor to HB 7065, a proposed bill that aims to decriminalize small amounts of psilocybin, commonly referred to as “magic mushrooms.”
As proposed, the bill would reduce the penalty for illegally possessing less than half an ounce of psilocybin from a crime that carries a possible prison term to a $150 fine for a first offense and $200 to $500 fine for a subsequent offense.
The bill narrowly gained passage, 74 to 65, in the House on Monday evening after a lengthy debate.
