Rep. Zupkus Testifies in Support of Pro-Veteran Bill

HARTFORD- State Representative Lezlye Zupkus (R-89) spoke before the legislature’s Committee on Veterans’ Affairs yesterday in support of legislation, H.B. 6061, to allow veterans to obtain an American flag symbol motor vehicle driver’s license free of charge.
“Our nation’s veterans pledge and risk their lives on the battlefield for our own safety and security,” said Rep. Zupkus. “We owe our appreciation and gratitude to these courageous men and women every single day. Asking veterans to pay a $30.00 fee to have their service, which is appreciated more than anything, reflected on their identification is dishonorable. Having the state charge our veterans to obtain a license with “veteran status” needs to be corrected.”
Under the current law, Veterans are charged a thirty-dollar fee to obtain a motor vehicle driver’s license with an American flag symbol. This bill seeks to allow veterans to have motor vehicle operator’s licenses reissued, free of charge, with an American flag prior to the expiration of any such license.
The bill, H.B. 6061, now awaits action by the Committee on Veterans’ Affairs. Residents can track this legislation on the General Assembly’s website, www.cga.ct.gov.
