Rep. Zupkus Talks State Budget and Housing Issues with Local Realtors

WATERTOWN- State Representative Lezlye Zupkus joined the Greater Waterbury Realtor Association and the Connecticut Property Owners Alliance for their 3rd Annual Legislative Town Hall Breakfast at Vasi’s Restaurant on Thursday.
“Realtors throughout the state see the impact of our unstable economic climate,” said Rep. Zupkus. “We need to attract businesses and residents back to our state, and the only way to create this influx is to rein in Hartford’s un-prioritized spending and stop pushing our fiscal woes onto future generations and municipalities. I remain hopeful that we will implement pro-growth and pro-business reforms, but it will take a real bipartisan effort.”
Rep. Zupkus gave a brief update on the governor’s budget proposal and its impact on municipalities, hospitals, and all residents.
“The governor’s budget proposal is shortsighted and will push the state’s fiscal problems onto municipalities, and will force most cities and towns to make drastic cuts or raise property taxes,” added Rep. Zupkus. “Realtors know increasing property taxes will have a severe impact on the housing market, and will force more residents to flee the state. I will continue to fight for common sense solutions and reforms that will kick start our economy.”
The Realtors expressed their concerns with the governor’s budget and the state’s dire fiscal situation. A primary focus of the Realtors this session is to create a real estate curriculum for technical, vocational and career academy state high schools in Connecticut.
According to the 2016 National Movers Study, Connecticut ranked fourth on the list of Most Moved from the state. The study found that 45 percent of the individuals surveyed reported moving for job reasons.
The Connecticut Realtors Association will be having a rally at the State Capitol on Tuesday, May 9th. For additional information, please visit the association’s website, www.ctrealtors.com.
