Rep. Zupkus Spends Time Riding with State Police Troop I

BETHANY – To get an up-close and personal view of Connecticut State Police Troop I, State Rep. Lezlye Zupkus (R-89) recently spent time touring the State Police Troop I Barracks and riding along with Trooper First Class Jose Rosado for an afternoon shift as he patrolled Bethany and the greater area. Troop I is the State Trooper Barracks for the greater New Haven area that also serves as the Resident State Trooper for Bethany, Prospect and Beacon Falls.
Zupkus visited the Troop I Barracks earlier this summer and met with Lieutenant David Delvecchia, who gave Zupkus a tour of the facility and discussed current legislative issues affecting state police, highlighting the importance of her visit to the barracks. Zupkus met again briefly with Delvecchia prior to the morning ride-along. Zupkus stated, “As ranking member of the Public Safety and Security committee in the General Assembly, it is important that I remain informed about the issues and challenges that affect policing in our communities. I appreciate Lt. Delvecchia taking the time to meet with me and discuss how the state legislature can support our state police while our dedicated men and women in uniform work to keep our citizens safe.”
During the ride-along with Trooper Rosado, Rep. Zupkus observed first-hand, how dedicated troopers and emergency responders protect the residents of Bethany and all towns and cities in their jurisdiction. Rep. Zupkus stated that the state trooper ride-along gave her a perspective as to the state police requirements and an often demanding schedule.
“Both the tour of the Troop I Barracks conducted by Lt. Delvechhia, and my ride throughout the community with Trooper Rosado, were very comprehensive and informative,” said Rep. Zupkus. “I witnessed the professionalism with which these troopers conducted themselves and their genuine respect and care for the safety and well-being of the residents in our greater communities and their ability to successfully manage emergency situations. This experience was invaluable and will certainly be of enormous help as I continue to work with my colleagues in the legislature on issues regarding law enforcement and public safety.”
“I want to thank both Lt. Delvecchia and Trooper Rosado for allowing me to spend some time with them. I also want to thank all of the men and women in law enforcement for all that they do daily to protect our citizens and ensure our safety. The more that we as legislators learn and remain informed about what our state police do on the job, the better we can support their mission to protect the public,” said Rep. Zupkus.
