Rep. Zupkus Spends Time Riding with Cheshire Police Department

CHESHIRE – To get an up-close and personal view of the Cheshire Police Department, State Rep. Lezlye Zupkus (R-89) recently spent time touring the Police Department and riding along with CPD Officer Sam DeCapua for an afternoon shift as he patrolled the town of Cheshire.
While at the department, Zupkus met with Lieutenant Mike Strollo, who gave a tour of the facility and discussed current legislative issues affecting law enforcement, highlighting the importance of her visit to the Police Department. Zupkus stated, “As ranking member of the Public Safety and Security committee in the General Assembly, it is important that I remain informed about the issues and challenges that affect policing in our communities. I appreciate Lt. Strollo taking the time to meet with me and discuss how the state legislature can support law enforcement while our dedicated men and women in uniform work to keep our citizens and our neighborhoods safe.”
During the ride-along with Officer DeCapua, who also serves as a school resource officer for Cheshire Schools, Rep. Zupkus observed first-hand, how dedicated police officers and emergency responders protect the residents of Cheshire. Rep. Zupkus stated that the police ride-along gave her a perspective as to the local police job requirements and an often demanding schedule.
“Both the tour of the Police Department conducted by Lt. Strollo, and my ride throughout the community with Officer DeCapua, were very comprehensive and informative,” said Rep. Zupkus. “I witnessed the professionalism with which these officers conducted themselves and their genuine respect and care for the safety and well-being of the residents in our community and their ability to successfully manage emergency situations. This experience was invaluable and will certainly be of enormous help as I continue to work with my colleagues in the legislature on issues regarding law enforcement and public safety.”
“I want to thank both Lt. Strollo and Officer DeCapua for allowing me to spend some time with them. I also want to thank all of the men and women in law enforcement for all that they do daily to protect our citizens and ensure our safety. The more that we as legislators learn and remain informed about what our local law enforcement officers do on the job, the better we can support their mission to protect the public,” said Rep. Zupkus. ###
