HARTFORD – Rep. Lezlye Zupkus and House Republicans released a third revision to their balanced, no-tax-increase budget proposal on Tuesday calling on the Democrat leaders in the legislature to vote on the GOP proposal by Thursday.
Rep. Zupkus said not putting a budget into effect by Thursday will show that Democrats are not prepared to lead our state and take control of the massive deficit.
“From the start of session, and before, we have been honest and transparent with Connecticut residents about the state’s dire fiscal crisis,” said Rep. Zupkus. “Our budget proposals have been straightforward and have given residents the opportunity to view a budget that doesn’t increase taxes or calls for other revenue grabs. We now may miss another deadline due to Democrat leaders ignoring our proposals, not having their own and kicking the can down the road. This is very disheartening for the citizens of CT.”
Republicans came up with a balanced budget this spring and then revised that proposal to account for a dramatic drop in revenues in late April. The Democrats failed to produce a budget plan during the legislative session and opted to go into a special session to pass a budget.
