CHESHIRE – State Rep. Lezlye Zupkus (R-Cheshire) honored Norton Elementary School of Cheshire with a legislative citation from the Connecticut General Assembly on November 5th honoring them as a National Blue Ribbon School for the 2020-2021 school year.

53 schools in Connecticut where chosen by the U.S. Department of Education for this commendation, which is based on math and language proficiencies, student to teacher ratios, and minority enrollment. Norton School is in the top 20% of the state with 73% proficiency in math and 79% proficiency in language, higher than the state averages of 47% and 57%, respectively.

“Presenting this citation was honestly such a pleasure, especially given the struggles we have all had this past year,” Rep. Zupkus said. “Norton teachers, administrators, students and parents should feel very proud to be recognized at this level, and know that their dedication to education is a huge part of what makes our community so great.”
