Rep. Zupkus Helps Long River Students with Capstone Project

PROSPECT- State Representative Lezlye Zupkus (R-89) met with 8th-grade students at Long River Middle School in Prospect on Thursday to speak about their Capstone projects, which focused on state programs to assist veterans.
Rep. Zupkus listened to the students present their projects and offered them ideas and advice about how to advance their legislation through the General Assembly.
“Helping our veterans is not a partisan issue in Hartford,” said Rep. Zupkus. “Everyone is committed to offering those who have served our country the best benefits imaginable. No veteran should go hungry, go without a roof over their head, or go without a job.”
Rep. Zupkus continued, “The 8th graders at Long River are setting a shining example for their peers and adults in our community. I am proud of these students for taking a proactive approach by asking questions about issues pertaining to our veterans and how we can help those who have put their lives on the line to protect our freedoms.”
Each student focused on a topic related to veterans including state programs to help outfit homes for physically disabled veterans, services to help veterans suffering from PTSD, and job-training programs.
Rep. Zupkus highlighted the following bills before the General Assembly that seek to help veterans and their families.
- H.B. 6072- An Act Establishing A Training Program For Mental Health And Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Issues Impacting Veterans Involved In The Criminal Justice System.
