Preparing for Tuesday’s Winter Storm

Dear Friends & Neighbors,
As you have probably heard by now, a dangerous major winter storm will impact our area tomorrow.
Winter Storm Stella
Many parts of the state are expecting over a foot of snow with the possibility of two feet in isolated areas. Snowfalls rates of 2 to 4 inches per hour are likely. Blizzard conditions are expected.
Sustained winds could reach 15 to 25 MPH with gusts of 45 MPH inland, and winds of 25 to 35 MPH with gusts up to 55 MPH near the coast. Power outages are possible.
The storm is expected to begin in the early hours of Tuesday morning and will last until late Tuesday evening.
Roads and highways will be dangerous if untreated, although the Department of Transportation has begun treating the roads in advance of the storm.
Connecticut residents are advised to stay off the roads and indoors unless it is an emergency.
Storm Preparations
Please take every precaution to keep you and your family safe as this storm passes through our state.
– Stock up on bottled water, canned goods and other non-perishable food items you may need in the event you are housebound for the next few days.
– Avoid driving if possible. Plows will need all the space we can afford in order to make our highways and roads passable.
– Make sure you have a first-aid kit, medications, tool kit, flashlight, and batteries.
– There is also a possibility that many will lose power. If you have a generator, please make sure it is working properly and that you have sufficient fuel to keep it operational. If you do use a generator, keep it outside your home and away from doors and windows to avoid carbon monoxide inhalation.
