Zupkus Named a Deputy Republican Leader

HARTFORD – On Friday, State Representative Lezlye Zupkus (R-89) was appointed by House Republican Leader-elect State Representative Vincent Candelora (R-86) to a join his leadership team as a Deputy House Republican Leader.
In addition, Rep. Zupkus was re-appointed to be a member of the Public Health Committee. Lezlye will also serve on the Education, Transportation and Legislative Management Committees.
“I am honored to be named a Deputy House Republican Leader. It is incredibly important to me to have the respect and trust of the individuals I serve. With this new role, I will be in a better position to advocate for responsible economic policies that will improve the lives of all Connecticut residents,” said Rep. Lezlye Zupkus.
House Republican Leader-elect State Rep. Candelora said, “While Lezlye personifies the independent spirit that runs through our caucus and state, over the years the potency of her passion for public service and a genuine desire to make Connecticut a better place to live has rallied our members when we’ve faced our biggest challenges. She’s a natural leader, and I’m thrilled she’s a part of our team.”
Rep. Zupkus added, “We have seen firsthand how the state’s public health policy affects everyone, this upcoming legislative session will be a critical one in developing safe public health policies to support and protect Connecticut residents and businesses impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. The legislative branch and the committee of cognizance need to be part of the conversation as Connecticut navigate our state through the challenges that lie ahead.”
Lezlye will be sitting on both the Education and Transportation committees for the first time in her legislative career.
The Education Committee works on state education policy for K-12 schools. As a new member of the committee, Rep. Zupkus will advocate for the needs of children and their parents, making sure every child receives a quality education especially during this challenging and unprecedented public health crisis where many students are forced to learn from home.
“While Connecticut’s transportation system has taken a back seat with less people commuting on the road, or via rail and bus instead they are working from home, we cannot let our state’s infrastructure languish and age. I pledge to oppose any new tax or toll scheme that harms the budgets of working families,” concluded Rep. Zupkus.
