(PROSPECT, HARTFORD) – This week, siblings Sam, Judah, Mary, and Caleb Shirk proudly represented their hometown of Prospect, Connecticut, as participants in the TeenPact Leadership School State Capitol program. State Representative Lezlye Zupkus (R-89) was excited to join and support homeschooled students from her district as they engaged in hands-on learning opportunities about the legislative process, state policymaking, and the importance of civic engagement.

“It is important that you stand up for what you believe in with dignity and grace,” said Zupkus in her brief address Wednesday morning. “As a supporter of homeschooling families, I have a great relationship with the Shirk family and I am so impressed with the amazing skills their children continue to demonstrate in their involvement in TeenPact and beyond.”

The TeenPact Leadership School was founded in 1993 by Tim Echols following inspiration to from a morning prayer meeting at the Georgia State Capitol to educate youth on the political process. As stated on their website, TeenPact seeks to “inspire youth in their relationship with Christ and train them to understand the political process, value their liberty, defend the Christian faith, and engage the culture around them.”

“I am so proud of Sam, Judah, Mary, and Caleb for their leadership, example, and hard work as they express their interests and learn about the political process,” added Zupkus. “It is wonderful to see fellow Prospect residents, especially our youth, stepping outside of their comfort zone willing to make a positive impact in their community and state.”
