HARTFORD – Rep. Lezlye Zupkus, R-Prospect, highlighted the recent signing of PA 24-27, a new law that will establish a fund for the families of police officers who have died in the line of duty.
This legislation started as a House Republican initiative, passed both chambers, and will provide an immediate – and untaxed – benefit payment of $100,000 to a surviving family member or beneficiary.
It also allows survivors who were covered by the police officer’s health insurance to apply for, or keep, the coverage for one year after the death and to renew annually for up to five years.
House Republican Leader Vincent Candelora attended the bill signing recently at the Connecticut Police Memorial, along with members of the police force.
Rep. Zupkus proudly supported and was grateful to see the legislation gain passage. You can read more about the new fund, here.
