October 23 is the DEA’s National Take Back Day, a day we are encouraged to properly dispose of unused or expired prescription drugs. Properly disposing of medications is important in order to prevent theft and misuse, and also to protect the environment. Medications that end up in the water supply, sewage system or landfills can be harmful to animals, plants and even people.

On October 23, the Cheshire Police Department will be hosting a collection drive at 500 Highland Avenue in Cheshire from 10am until 1:15pm of you have anything that needs to be disposed of. Medications must be in plastic bags, as they will not accept prescription bottles.

The Cheshire Police Department also has a 24-hour drop box that can be utilized for safe disposal any day of the year.

Additionally, there is a 24-hour drop box in the front lobby of the Troop I Barracks at 631 Amity Road in Bethany.
