HARTFORD—State Rep. Joe Zullo was sworn into office Friday afternoon in front of a crowd of family, friends and members of the state’s House of Representatives. East Haven residents who live in the 99th District chose Zullo as their voice in Hartford through a special election held Feb. 26.
“It’s a tremendous honor to stand in the people’s House, and I’m ready for the awesome responsibility that comes with this job,” said Zullo, a local attorney who over the years has demonstrated his commitment to East Haven through variety of volunteer endeavors.
Zullo was sworn into office by his father Alfred Zullo, an attorney whose long record of civic involvement in East Haven spurred his son’s drive toward community service.
The younger Zullo on Friday pledged to work with legislators on both sides of the aisle to help get Connecticut back on track.
“I’m thrilled to have Representative Zullo in the House, and the common sense views he brings from East Haven are what this legislature needs right now,” said House Republican Leader Themis Klarides, who spoke during Friday’s ceremony. “This state faces big challenges, and I’m certain Joe will make a meaningful contribution in the effort to get our state back on track.”
Zullo is expected to receive his committee assignments next week.
