Rep. Zawistowski Re-Introduces Legislation to Ban Fracking Waste

HARTFORD – State Representative Tami Zawistowski (R-61) re-introduced legislation to ban waste from hydraulic fracturing (fracking) in Connecticut, HB 5590 ‘An Act Permanently Prohibiting the Storage, Disposal, Handling and Use of Hydraulic Fracturing Waste in the State’.
The Town of Windsor enacted an ordinance to ban fracking waste in January of 2017, and by unanimous resolution of its Town Council, petitioned its state legislative delegation to support a permanent ban of fracking waste materials in the State of Connecticut. In 2017 the legislation was introduced by Rep. Zawistowski with former Reps. Baram and Storms and was passed in the House of Representatives, but never received a vote in the Senate.
