The State of Connecticut has begun preparations for a phased roll out of COVID-19 vaccinations. The first phase is anticipated by the end of the year, the goal is for all residents to have access to the vaccination by late spring or early summer 2021. According to the Small Business Administration (SBA), borrowers may be eligible for loan forgiveness if the funds were used for eligible purposes such as, payroll, business mortgage interest payments, rent, or utilities during either the 8- or 24-week period after disbursement. Borrowers can apply for forgiveness once they have used all loan proceeds for which the borrower is requesting forgiveness. Borrowers can apply for forgiveness any time up to the maturity date of the loan.
House Republicans outlined actions that need immediate attention, including: shoring up the state’s Unemployment Compensation Trust Fund, allowing businesses more time to pay the second half of their personal property taxes, and delaying the implementation of the paid family leave payroll tax that will see the state take more money from the paychecks of cash-strapped employees.
Connecticut is renewing its call for medical and non-medical volunteers who can assist in critical roles. There are opportunities to help in education, food distribution, testing sites, nursing homes, and more.
Last week, the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) issued a ruling on their investigations into the July and August rate increases by Eversource and United Illuminating. PURA concluded that the current approach to rate adjustments is not in the public interest. The authority’s decision calls for an overhaul of the rate adjustment process, increased transparency, and a redesign of customer’s electric bills.
