REP. DAVE YACCARINO BACKS RESPONSIBLE GOP BUDGET PLAN TO PROTECT TAXPAYERS AND STRENGTHEN CONNECTICUT’S FUTURE
North Haven, CT—State Representative Dave Yaccarino (R-87) proudly supports the House Republican budget plan, which takes a responsible and transparent approach to government spending by prioritizing education funding and cutting energy costs to deliver real relief for Connecticut families.
“This budget reflects the priorities of hardworking Connecticut residents who are being squeezed by inflation, rising energy costs, and uncertainty,” said Rep. Yaccarino. “We make targeted investments in essential services while protecting taxpayers through long-term reforms that ensure sustainability, not short-term political gains.”
The Republican proposal protects the fiscal guardrails that have contributed to recent financial stability, preserving the Volatility Cap and generating $104.3 million in pension savings in Fiscal Year 2027 alone, with annual savings projected to surpass $800 million cumulatively.
Key components of the plan include:
- Investments in Education, by funding the Learner Engagement Program to address student absenteeism, expanding after-school programs, supporting dual credit opportunities for high schoolers, and fully funding the Special Education Excess Cost Grant at updated, tiered levels to reduce the burden on local property taxpayers.
- Lowering Energy Costs, reducing electric bills by removing part of the “public benefits” charge and moving it into the state budget, allowing for a thorough review of these programs to determine their future.
- Tax Deductions and Credits, increases the credit from $300 to $350, expands the income threshold to $70K for single filers and $100K for couples, permanently removes the sales tax on children’s clothing year-round.
- Adopting modest fare increases for buses and trains to reduce unsustainable COVID-era subsidies and encourage fiscal responsibility in public transit.
- Support for hospitals and healthcare providers, investing $137.5 million in Medicaid rate increases — a lifeline for providers serving our most vulnerable populations.
“While democrat leadership pushes costly, partisan agendas, this budget does the hard work of governing responsibly,” said Rep. Yaccarino. “We’re protecting services like special education and infrastructure while respecting every taxpayer dollar. This is how we build a better, more secure future for Connecticut.”
