New Laws Effective July 1st
Posted on July 1, 2025

Starting today, several important new laws take effect in Connecticut—each aimed at making our state safer and more respectful of those who serve and protect.
One new law expands the state’s Fallen Officer Fund to include firefighters, ensuring that families of first responders who make the ultimate sacrifice receive the support they deserve. This is a meaningful step forward in how we honor our heroes and care for their loved ones after tragedy.
Another law takes aim at the growing threat of illegal street takeovers, giving law enforcement and municipalities more tools to respond to these reckless and dangerous events. By increasing penalties and allowing for vehicle seizure and license suspension, we’re sending a clear message: public safety is a priority, and this behavior won’t be tolerated.
These new laws reflect our commitment to both honoring service and ensuring safety in our communities. I’ll continue working to support our first responders and protect Connecticut families.
