Dear Friends and Neighbors,
There are two legislative proposals that are having public hearings early next week that are important to Norwalk and Darien as well as communities across the state.
I encourage all interested to submit written testimony and/or give virtual testimony.
One, the rise in crime, especially juvenile crime, across Connecticut is a growing concern in all 169 cities and towns. Vehicles — locked and unlocked — are being ransacked and stolen, and innocent victims have been carjacked while getting gas.
The House Republican Caucus understands your frustration with the misguided policies that are putting criminals back on the streets within hours of an arrest. Police officers say there’s nothing they can do until the laws are changed.

Developing affordable housing options around mass transit ( also known as Transit Oriented Development) has been a much discussed topic for many years, especially in lower Fairfield County.
This session, there’s a proposal to expand “as of right” housing development that meets specific criteria, including those “with a minimum overall average gross density of fifteen dwelling units per acre located within a half-mile radius of any passenger rail or commuter rail station or any bus rapid transit station.”
This proposal will also mandate that any development “which includes six or more dwelling units on one lot, shall set aside not less than ten per cent of the dwelling units in a manner that meets the requirements of (1) assisted housing as defined in section 8-30g of the general statutes.”
On Monday, the legislature’s Planning and Development Committee is holding a public hearing via Zoom on HB 5429 – AN ACT CONCERNING TRANSIT-ORIENTED DEVELOPMENT.
