Local 9/11 Remembrance Events

Nearly 3,000 people – comprising of citizens from 78 different countries around the world – were killed in New York, Washington, D.C. and Pennsylvania during the September 11th terrorist attacks in 2001. In 2009, Congress named this day a National Day of Service and Remembrance.

Please find a list below of local 9/11 remembrance events, which are great opportunities for our communities to come together, honor and remember these victims as we continue to combat terrorism and secure freedom for our citizens near and far.


What: Memorial Ceremony
When: Thursday, September 5, 2019 from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm
Where: Sherwood Island State Park Pavilion
Family members of those killed in the attacks will participate.
The names of all 161 victims with ties to Connecticut will be read aloud.


What: 19th Annual CT United Ride (60 miles)
When: Sunday, September 8, 2019 at 10:30 a.m.
Where: Opening Ceremonies begin at 10 Norden Place, Norwalk
Pre-Register here for Connecticut’s largest single motorcade and 9/11 tribute.

What: Memorial Ceremony
When: Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at 8:30 a.m.
Where: Norwalk City Hall, 125 East Avenue


What: Remembrance Ceremony
When: Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at 8:30 a.m.
Where: 9/11 Memorial (behind Middlesex Middle School
at 204 Hollow Tree Ridge Road, Darien)
A wreath and red roses will be placed and a moment of silence will be observed at
8:46 a.m., the time the first plane struck the Tower on September 11, 2001.
