I thought you all would appreciate knowing about the Connecticut Freedom Trail as we close out honoring Black History Month.

The Connecticut Freedom Trail is a group of historical sites that tell the story of Connecticut’s Black History. It includes locations that hosted safe houses along the Underground Railroad, homes of abolitionists, monuments to Black heroes and other experiences are among the many points of interest integral to our state’s history.

The trail’s website has four themed trails…

  • Travel the Freedom Trail
  • Escape on the Underground Railroad
  • Sail the Amistad
  • Explore the concept of freedom

All four are key to understanding Connecticut’s rich history. They document the road toward freedom and human dignity — and celebrate the accomplishments and heritage of our state’s African-American community. There are more than 130 sites in more than 50 towns.
