As the mother of a successful young adult who was challenged with dyslexia for many years before being identified, I was very proud to have introduced this legislation. This bill creates specific training standards for dyslexia for special education teachers within higher education. It also set accountability standards for the State Department of Education that teacher training in dyslexia meets the set standards. Ultimately, early identification and appropriate remediation will help students with dyslexia so they may thrive in school and in their chosen professions.

HB 6517An Act Implementing the Recommendations of the Task Force to Analyze the Implementation of Laws Governing Dyslexia Instruction and Training, passed the House this week with unanimous support.

I thank everyone who helped bring this bill to the House floor and I appreciate the growing number of legislators who have signed onto this important legislation as a cosponsor.

Looking forward to seeing our bill pass in the Senate and become law.
