Rep. Weir Tours Family-Owned Grocery Store and Hebron Staple

For more than 50 years, Ted’s IGA Supermarket has been a staple of the Hebron community since opening on their doors on February7, 1974. This morning, I met with owners Dave and Todge Armata to discuss some of the challenges they face, how their business continues to adapt, and the importance of community.

As with many businesses in our state, energy costs are a big financial burden. With some of the most recent increases, their bill is expected to raise from 11,000/month to almost $16,000. Additionally, their other challenges include increased labor costs and finding experienced individuals to fill positions.

Ted’s currently has 77 full and part time employees. Some of their employees are the second generation of their family to have worked there. Since 1989, the store has expanded three different times.

In addition to the regular produce and other items found in the larger supermarkets, their bakery makes homemade pies, sandwiches, and other items daily. While they don’t personally deliver, they do offer online shopping and pickup.
