Rep. Weir Joins Bipartisan Group to Discuss Laws Impacting Small Businesses

Key Takeaways

  • Local leaders and lawmakers Discuss Impacts of Labor Laws on Small Business
  • Discussion Centered around Minimum Wage Increases and Paid Sick Leave

I capped off a busy Tuesday by joining a bipartisan group of area lawmakers and local leaders at the Flour Girl Bakery & Café for an informal roundtable discussion on the impacts of labor and employment laws on small businesses.

The meeting, organized by the CT River Valley Chamber of Commerce, highlighted two specific items - paid sick leave and minimum wage (next increase is January 2026).

Our discussions exclusively focused on the impact these state laws have had on small business and some of the challenges that have come in navigating them.

After the discussion and tour, Senator Osten and I presented a legislative citation to Michelle Nicholson, the founder and owner of Flour Girl Bakery & Café. Michelle was named Connecticut’s 2025 Small Business Person of the Year by the U.S. Small Business Administration.
