HARTFORD— State Representative J.P. Sredzinski (R-Monroe/Newtown) took the oath of office to represent Connecticut’s 112th District for the fourth time on Wednesday. In a socially-distanced ceremony on the north steps of the State Capitol building in Hartford, he joined his 150 colleagues in the House of Representatives to be sworn in for another term and begin the 2021 legislative session.

In December, Sredzinski was reappointed to the Public Safety Committee, where he has served since his election in 2014, including as Ranking Member of the committee since the 2017 session. “A top priority for me for the 2021 session is making sure we take care of our first responders, health care workers, essential workers and public safety professionals who have been on the frontline of this pandemic for months. It’s still not clear just when we will be able to put this behind us, but it’s for certain that the physical, mental, and emotional burden for our first responders has been a large one,” said Rep. Sredzinski, who also serves as the Public Safety Dispatch Superintendent for the Town of Stratford.

“They’re not only responding to calls directly related to coronavirus, but to all manner of other incidents that have become far too common: overdoses, domestic violence, and violent crime. Our public safety personnel feel the direct impact of these cases, and we need to make sure they know this legislature is doing everything they can for them when they go out on a call,” Rep. Sredzinski said.

Sredzinski will also serve on the legislature’s Human Services and Higher Education Committees, which have cognizance over disability services and public university education, respectively. Last month, he was picked by House Republican Leader-elect Vincent Candelora (R-North Branford) to once again serve as House Republican Whip, a position which reflects his leadership in the chamber and involves coordination of members on a range of bipartisan issues. Rep. Sredzinski said, “I thank Leader-Elect Vin Candelora for his vote of confidence in reappointing me to House Republican Whip. I look forward to working with the leadership team and rest of the legislature in the upcoming session.”

Representative Sredzinski serves the 112th General Assembly District of Monroe and Newtown.
