Road Construction on I-84 in Newtown

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the scheduled Exit 10 ramp closure on I-84 eastbound in Newtown, nightly, from July 14 through July 20, 2020, beginning each night at 10:00 PM until 5:00 AM.  The closure is necessary to facilitate construction/safety improvement activities.


  • Eastbound Exit 10 off-ramp: Take exit 11 follow Route 6 detour.
  • Eastbound Exit 10 on-ramp: Follow Route 6 to Route 34 detour to exit 11.

Delay of Phase 3 Reopening

Yesterday, Governor Lamont announced that his administration would be delaying the state’s Phase 3 reopening – which would have included bars and increase outdoor event capacity to 250 people – indefinitely.

This change comes as several states have seen surges in COVID-19 cases.

Plastic Bag Tax Returns July 1

The state’s Department of Revenue Services (DRS) announced that collection of the plastic bag tax resumes today, and that retailers should begin collecting the 10-cent per bag tax again. The governor in late-March suspended the tax during the pandemic response.

CTDOL Extended Unemployment Insurance Letters Going Out Today

Last Friday, the Connecticut Department of Labor (CTDOL) released information regarding letters going out today to some Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC) filers who are close to exhausting their federal benefits. Recipients of these letters will be eligible to extend their unemployment insurance (UI) under Connecticut’s extended benefits (EB) program.
