Rep. Scott Shares Updates on Two DOT Projects

Posted on October 22, 2024

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) has completed work to reopen a section of Route 34 at the border between Monroe and Oxford, which closed due to damage from the August 18th storm. The roadway reconstruction and a temporary bridge were completed and installed two weeks ahead of schedule. Minor work in the area is still needed, but Route 34 is once again open to traffic.

The CTDOT is also continuing to install a wrong way detection system along Route 8. Work is set to take place at Exit 4 in Trumbull on Tuesday, October 22, completed by the following morning.

The Wrong Way Detection System uses video cameras to detect vehicles that are traveling in the wrong direction. If a vehicle is detected, wrong way signs outlined with multiple sets of red lights are activated and begin flashing to alert the driver they are traveling in the wrong direction. Additionally, the system alerts the CTDOT Highway Operations Center and local State Police Troop barracks in real-time, allowing staff to monitor the activities of the wrong way driver on the ramp.

This installation is especially timely as there was a wrong-way fatality on Route 8 in Waterbury just this past weekend.
