Rep. Scott Discusses Lack of Progress on New Housing Bill

Key Takeaways

  • Rep. Scott criticizes lack of transparency over a new housing bill.

The House Majority Leader posted a photo on X, formerly Twitter, showing him outside reading through a new version of HB 5002, the affordable housing bill I discussed for five hours on the house floor. There was plenty of sunshine in that photo, but no sunlight and transparency in letting the public see this proposal.

Being a 'working draft' there is no publicly available copy and Democrats are once again working in a silo on a new version of HB 5002.

As late as last week, Gov. Lamont still hadn't heard back from the majority on his proposals. That begs the question, does he know what's in this version this time? We're supposedly going into a Special Session before the end of the year and there's nothing to vet.

Words matter, and the public deserves to have notice and see what's included in this housing bill proposal.
