House GOP Leader Candelora Appoints Rep. Scott to Housing Committee Leadership Post

Posted on December 12, 2022

HARTFORD—House Minority Leader Vincent Candelora has appointed state Rep. Tony Scott, R-Monroe, as the leading House Republican on the General Assembly’s Housing Committee.

In his new role as Ranking Member of the committee, Scott will lead housing-related policy initiatives on behalf of House Republicans.

In the General Assembly, each legislative committee has four leadership posts. Senate and House Democrats, the majority party, each appoint a Co-Chairman to oversee committee activity while House and Senate Republicans have one Ranking Member each.

“Our team of Ranking Members blends individuals who have served in that capacity in the past with those who are stepping up to take on these crucial leadership roles,” Candelora said. “I’m confident they will be meaningful contributors in our ongoing effort to enact sound public policy focused on affordability and enhancing the quality of life our state offers.”

The Housing Committee has cognizance of all matters relating to housing and housing programs. Rep. Scott’s new duties as Ranking Member are effective immediately.

Rep. Scott served as a member of the Monroe Town Council, where he also was Chairman of the key Strategic Planning Subcommittee.  He previously served on Monroe’s Parks & Recreation Commission, leading as Chairman for 6 years. He also served on the Monroe Economic Development Commission. A graduate of Penn State University with a Communications degree in Broadcast Journalism, he currently works in Marketing at Edgewell Personal Care in Shelton, CT as a Senior Promotions Manager.

Rep. Scott, who has served on the committees of Public Safety, Human Services and Higher Education, remains a staunch advocate of lowering taxes for Connecticut residents, while making the state more affordable and safer.

“I’m honored by the trust that Rep. Candelora has placed in me with this appointment to a key legislative panel that effects the lives of so many of our residents,” said Scott, who represents the 112th House District, which as of January, will include Easton, Monroe and Trumbull. “I’m looking forward to getting to work on these important matters when the next legislative session begins in January.”

Representative Scott encourages constituents in the 112th District to contact him at any time at Tony.Scott@housegop.ct.gov or by calling 860-240-8700. They can also stay up-to-date on bills and future events by signing up for Rep. Scott’s email newsletter at www.RepScott.com
