State Representative Rosa C. Rebimbas was first elected to the Connecticut State House of Representatives representing the 70th district of Naugatuck in a special election in March of 2009. She is a lifelong resident of Naugatuck, local business owner and community leader.

As a state representative, Rebimbas currently serves as a Deputy House Leader and on the legislature’s powerful Judiciary Committee. She is also a member of the Transportation Committee and Environment Committee. Additionally, she serves as co-chair to the bipartisan Women’s Caucus and Waterbury Line Caucus.

She is a former ranking member of the General Law and Judiciary committees and former member of the Public Safety and Security Committee, Children’s Committee, Legislative Management Committee, Appropriations Committee and Energy and Technology Committee.

Representative Rebimbas was educated through the Naugatuck public school system and earned a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Political Science and Secondary Education, with a minor in Faith, Peace, and Justice, from Fairfield University in Fairfield, Conn. Rep. Rebimbas then earned a Juris Doctor degree from the S.J. Quinney College of Law, at the University of Utah, in Salt Lake City, Utah. After completion of her law degree, she returned to Naugatuck where she wanted to practice law and give back to the local community.

Shortly after her return to Naugatuck, Rep. Rebimbas passed the Connecticut Bar Exam and practiced law at a local law firm before she started The Law Offices of Rosa C. Rebimbas, L.L.C. in 2007.

Rep. Rebimbas has been heavily involved with community service and has served on the Water Pollution Board and Naugatuck Finance Board. Rep. Rebimbas is past President of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Waterbury, Inc. and served on the Board of Directors of Guardian Ad Litem Services. She is also a Board Member for the Naugatuck Economic Development Committee and past Board Member of the United Way of Naugatuck and Beacon Falls. Rep. Rebimbas is an active member of several other professional legal organizations and community groups, including the Naugatuck Republican Town Committee.

In the legislature, Rep. Rebimbas has successfully worked with her colleagues on both sides of the aisle in order to negotiate and pass important legislation.

Representative Rebimbas gained national attention in her first term when she sponsored a bill regarding teens and “Sexting.” She appeared on the national FOX News Network, the morning news program of “Fox and Friends,” and on CNN. She was also highlighted in several local and statewide newspapers for her ability to gain support for her bill from her colleagues.

The “Sexting” bill unanimously passed both the House of Representatives and the Senate.

In her role as state representative, Rebimbas was honored to provide the keynote address at several ceremonies, including the grand opening of the Connecticut Census Office, serving the Greater Waterbury area located in Middlebury; the Naugatuck Police Department Award Ceremony; the Connecticut Motorcycle Riders Association; and The Portuguese Foundation, Inc. Annual Scholarship Banquet. Rep. Rebimbas has served as co-chair with Congressman John Larson at the annual PALCUS (Portuguese American Leadership Council of the U.S.) Gala and has had the opportunity to host and attend many other events benefiting the residents of Naugatuck.
