    Privacy Policy

    Effective date: October 27, 2025

    Who we are

This Privacy Policy describes how the Connecticut House Republican Office (“we,” “our,” “CHRO”) collects and uses information on our websites and in our Metta mobile/web application (together, the “Services”). We are a legislative caucus. Our websites and the Metta app are operated by state employees on our communications staff.

    What this policy covers

    • Websites under our control that link to this policy.
    • The Metta app and any forms or features within it.
    • Newsletter sign-ups, contact forms, and email communications with our offices.

This policy doesn’t cover websites or apps we don’t control. See Links to Other Sites below.

    Information we collect

    1) Information you provide directly

    • Contact information (name, email address, phone, mailing address).
    • Constituency details you choose to share (e.g., town, district).
    • Messages and attachments you submit through contact forms or by email.
    • Newsletter preferences and subscriptions.

    2) Information collected automatically (websites/app)

    • Basic technical data (IP address, browser or device type, operating system, approximate location derived from IP, app version).
    • Usage data (pages/screens viewed, referring pages, date/time).
    • Cookies or similar technologies if enabled on our sites/app. (See Cookies & Analytics.)

    3) Information from service providers

If we use vendors (e.g., email newsletter services, web/App hosting, analytics), they may process limited personal information on our behalf under contract.

    How we use information

    • To deliver the Services, respond to your messages, and manage subscriptions.
    • To communicate legislative updates and constituent services.
    • To maintain security, prevent abuse, and improve our sites/app.
    • To comply with law, including the Connecticut Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and records-management obligations. Connecticut General Assembly+1

    Public records & FOIA notice

We are a public agency. Records we maintain—including messages sent through contact forms and email—may be public records and subject to disclosure under the Connecticut FOIA, subject to any statutory exemptions and limitations. CT.gov

    • We may be legally required to disclose certain records upon request.
    • We cannot control or guarantee how third parties use records once disclosed.
    • Some categories of information can be withheld or redacted under FOIA exemptions (e.g., where disclosure would invade personal privacy or pose safety risks), as allowed by law.

If you have concerns, consider limiting sensitive personal details in messages you submit.

    Cookies & analytics

If enabled on our sites/app, we may use strictly necessary cookies for security and basic functionality, and—if configured—analytics tools to understand aggregate usage. You can usually control cookies through your browser or device settings. (If you want a detailed cookie table, we can add one.)

    Children’s privacy

Our Services are not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn we have done so, we will delete it. For more about U.S. children’s privacy rules (COPPA), see the FTC’s guidance. Federal Trade Commission+1

    Data sharing

We do not sell personal data.
    We may share information with:

    • Service providers (e.g., hosting, email delivery, analytics) bound by confidentiality and data-protection obligations;
    • Government entities or others when required by law (including FOIA) or to protect rights, safety, or security;
    • With your direction (e.g., forwarding a message to your state representative’s office).

    Data retention

We retain records consistent with applicable public-records requirements and operational needs. Some records may be retained and archived according to state schedules; others may be deleted sooner if not required. (If you need the specific schedule applied to a particular record type, contact us.)

    Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure.

    Your choices

    • Newsletter: you can unsubscribe using the link in our emails or by contacting us.
    • Contact forms: you may choose what to share; please avoid sensitive details if you have disclosure concerns.
    • Cookies/Analytics: adjust your browser/device settings; if we deploy an in-product cookie banner, you can manage preferences there.
