Trails Day Hike – June 2nd

As part of the 2019 Connecticut Trails Day Weekend, I want to make you aware of recreational hikes in Harwinton and Litchfield sponsored by the Town of Harwinton Recreation Department and Litchfield Hills Audubon Society on Sunday, June 2nd.

Harwinton Nature Walk

12:00 – 1:30 p.m. Sunday, June 2nd

Harwinton Conservation/Recreation Area

The hike will take place on Sunday starting at the Pavilion adjacent to the parking area on 95 Litchfield Road, at the intersection of Route 4 and Route 118. The hike will explore trails along the Leadmine Brook, then loop back to the trailhead.

No rain dates are scheduled.

Litchfield Nature Walk

9:00 – 11:30 a.m. Sunday, June 2nd

Boyd Woods Audubon Sanctuary

The hike will take place on Sunday starting at Boyd Woods Audubon Sanctuary parking lot on Route 254 in Litchfield, located on the west side of Rt. 254, about 1 mile south of Rt. 118.Tree identification blazes have been placed along the Boyd Woods Sanctuary’s trails. The hike will pass through a variety of habitats such as woodlands, clear-cuts, pond and brook wetlands with various stops to discuss the various trees and much more.

Hikers are encouraged to pack water, sunscreen, bug-spray, other hiking materials, a picnic lunch, camera, notebook or sketchbook to record your observations if you wish.

Connecticut Trails Day is sponsored by the Connecticut Forest and Park Association (CFPA), which has been a devoted advocate of Connecticut’s state park system and natural resources for quite some time. Visit www.ctwoodlands.org/ct-trails-weekend for more information.
