State John Piscopo (R-76) spent Monday, March 2nd honoring Dr. Seuss’ birthday while reading to fourth graders in Mrs. Ziolkowski-Carr’s class at Harwinton Consolidated as part of ‘Read Across America Day’ events. Rep. Piscopo expressed his excitement for this annual tradition of promoting a love of reading, literacy, and learning.

“It is always so exciting to celebrate this fun-filled day with students,” Rep. Piscopo said. “Reading is an essential life-long skill,  I am honored to play a small role in helping to facilitate a love of reading. Also, let’s not forget the dedicated educators who inspire a love of reading and make education fun in our school on a daily basis.”

The aim of the Read Across America program is to raise literary awareness by motivating children and teens to read through events, partnerships, and reading resources.

According to their website, The National Education Association (NEA) seeks to build a nation of readers through its signature program – Read Across America. The event involves more than 3.2 million teachers, librarians, athletes, celebrities, politicians, business professionals and everyday people reading to students across the country.

The annual event was established by NEA in 1998 and has become the largest reading event in the country.
