COVID-19 Update

The Connecticut Department of Labor has created a helpful informational FAQ for employees and employers impacted by the coronavirus outbreak: Click Here. This resource includes information about unemployment insurance, paid sick leave and absences, wages and hours, and family medical leave.

The Latest from the Governor:

Earlier today (3/16) Governor Lamont, alongside the Governor’s of New York and New Jersey announced a uniform policy limiting crowd capacity for social and recreational gatherings to a maximum of 50 people. Additionally, the three governors also announced that restaurants and bars that serve food will temporarily be required to move to take-out and delivery services only. Bars that do not serve food will be required to temporarily close. Movie theaters, gyms and fitness centers have also been instructed to temporarily close. These measures will take effect at 8PM tonight.

This order does not apply to all businesses. For example, grocery stores, pharmacies, banks and other stores can remain open at this time.

Moratorium on Utility Shut-Offs: Attorney General William Tong announced today that the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority has granted an emergency moratorium on electric, natural gas, and water utility shut-offs in response to the coronavirus pandemic. The Office of the Attorney General filed a formal petition Thursday seeking to cease all utility service terminations for a 30 day period subject to renewal to ensure all residents may safely remain home during the epidemic. Governor Lamont is requesting the Small Business Administration issue a declaration enabling Connecticut’s small business owners to receive disaster assistance.

The Department of Revenue Services (DRS) is extending the filing deadline for certain annual state business tax returns. Please regularly check the DRS website to determine how this may affect you. Click Here.
