HARTFORD — State Representatives Ben McGorty (R-122nd) and Jason Perillo (R-113th) joined their Republican colleagues recently in opposing a marijuana legalization proposal they believe carries grave consequences for health and public safety in the state of Connecticut.

The bill would establish government regulations for the commercial sale of marijuana, while removing criminal penalties for possession and eliminating cannabis possession as probable cause for police in a traffic stop.

The House debate on the marijuana bill is happening now.
Regardless of where you stand on the issue of legalizing recreational cannabis, the bill we have here today is downright criminal. It is essentially legalized racketeering, government-sanctioned organized crime designed to benefit the few at the expense of the many. It’s picking winners and losers.

HARTFORD — Shelton State Representatives Jason Perillo (R-113), Deputy House Republican Leader, and Ben McGorty (R-122)¸ Assistant House Republican Leader, voted with their party and five Democrats in opposing a new mileage tax on trucks that utilize Connecticut highways.

HB 6688, An Act Concerning a Highway Use Fee, will create a per-mile tax on trucks that will increase based on gross tonnage. Trucks weighing 26,000 to 28,000 pounds will pay $0.025 per mile and vehicles weighing more than 80,000
