Today, I joined my Republican colleagues in proposing several solutions to help offset the costs associated with the shut off moratorium.

They include – reallocate the remaining end-of-year American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds, allocate the FY24 General Fund surplus of $329.3 million, permanently reduce the Budget Reserve Fund threshold from 18% to 15% in order to reallocate the difference to ratepayers.

I was also joined by Deacon Stan Piotrowski, a Bristol resident and taxpayer, who wanted to voice his frustration on this issue. Deacon Piotrowski and I have worked for almost eight years together drafting legislative proposals to address many of the energy issues we are now faced with. Like many of you, he doesn’t think paying customers should have to pay for those who haven’t paid their bills, and that the utility company should have to hire a collection agency to help recoup their losses similarly to what a private company would be forced to do.

Rep. Pavalock-D’Amato stands alongside Deacon Stanley Piotrowski, a Bristol resident, who attended the House and Senate Republicans press conference in support of calling for a Special Session to address the recent electricity increases.
