School is back in session for many children here in the Northwest Corner. Previously dormant alarm clocks could be heard from Canaan all the way down to Kent this morning. As with any new routine it takes a few days to adjust to the hustle and bustle of daily school bus traffic. Please keep in mind that our school bus drivers and their students are still learning their new routes and various arrival times. Be sure to give them the space and time that they deserve.
Thank you to everyone who donated school supplies for our local students. We received an immense outpouring of support. The drive officially ends on September 7th, so you still have time to drop any extra supplies that you may have come across. Click the link here for more info.
The friendships that I’ve made with both teachers and students alike are some of my most treasured and valued and not one do I take for granted. I’ve had the honor of seeing many of these students grow up to be amazing young leaders and stellar athletes. Our local schools are some of the best in our state. I’m so proud to be an outspoken advocate and a trusted voice when it comes to defending our teachers, students, and schools. There is still a lot of work to be done, however, to ensure that our school funding remains stable and equitable well into the future. Protecting our students and infrastructure has been a priority of mine since I began working as a school safety consultant in 2013. The bonds and trust that I’ve been able to build over the past five years continue to be strengthened. I look forward to working with the safety committees from each respective school and ultimately bring those concepts and ideas back to the School Safety legislative working group so that we can continue our overall mission of ensuring current safety policies and procedures are relevant and effective.
I’d like to wish all of our students and teachers a joyous and enthusiastic start to the 2018-2019 school year. This is always an exciting time. I look forward to stopping by and saying hello!
