Sales Tax-Free Week Begins Tomorrow

CT’s 20th Annual Sales “Tax-Free” Week:
Sunday, August 16 – Saturday, August 22
Connecticut’s 20th annual Sales Tax-Free Week begins tomorrow, Sunday, August 16 and runs through Saturday, August 22. Despite attempts to eliminate it in the past, including last year as part of the governor’s two-year budget proposal, I and many others in the legislature fought successfully to preserve it. This tax holiday gives our state economy a boost each year, which our small businesses need now more than ever.
The event applies to items normally sold for less than $100, specifically clothing and footwear. Examples include athletic socks, baseball caps, belts/suspenders/buckles, blouses, chef uniforms, diapers, ear muffs, formal wear rentals, gloves, golf shirts, hats/caps, jeans, overclothes, rain jackets, rented uniforms, shirts, swim suits, work clothes, and much more.
Here is a complete list of exempt and nonexempt items.
I encourage you to take advantage of this event and to help support local businesses here in New Canaan and Wilton. Many area business owners have taken extensive measures to protect their customers from the virus so they may continue serving them during this difficult time.

I hope you are able to enjoy some shopping next week, albeit safely and at a social distance.
